Justin DeFont, PGA Awarded South Florida PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award
West Palm Beach, FL - Justin DeFont, PGA Head Professional at Audubon Country Club has been awarded the 2022 South Florida PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award.
The Bill Strausbaugh award recognizes the professional whose overall commitment is to promoting the game, the Association, and fellow PGA Professionals. This professional is honored for his/her integrity, leadership ability, professional mentoring and community involvement related to golf activities.
“Being selected as the 2022 Bill Strausbaugh award recipient is an incredible acknowledgement, '' said DeFont. “I’m driven by a passion to mentor and share the knowledge I have gained as a PGA Professional. It’s an honor to be chosen for this award and the highlight of my career.”
DeFont and his team at Audubon Country Club are committed to teaching and grooming the next generation of PGA Professionals. During Defont’s first year as Head Professional, Audubon had just one Professional Golf Management student on the golf operations staff. By Defont’t fourth year, six students were on staff, including four inside operation interns and two outside operation interns.
DeFont has made it a priority to work with each individual to help teach new facets of the industry from tournament operations to club financials.
“I believe the hands-on approach we offer is a great educational tool that better prepares our interns and certainly creates a sense of accomplishment all under the watchful eye and guidance of our PGA Professional staff,” explained DeFont.
Overall, DeFont has played a role in mentoring 16 interns at Audubon during his six years. Each of these interns have gone on to obtain full-time positions, with a majority of them in the golf industry.
The Bill Strausbaugh Award is one of the South Florida PGA’s annual awards. The SFPGA will honor DeFont and present his award March 14th.. Click here for a full list of award winners.
