Alejandro Fernandez, PGA Award South Florida PGA Youth Development Award
West Palm Beach, FL - Alejandro Fernandez, PGA Director of Instruction at Crandon Golf Academy has been named the 2o22 South Florida PGA Youth Player Development Award recipient.
The Youth Player Development Award annually recognizes the professional who uses his/her leadership skills to promote and develop junior golf at both the club and community levels.
“That commitment to reaching as many juniors as possible and seeing them grow at all levels of the game drives us to succeed every day. Receiving this award means the world to myself and my staff. It is a culmination and validation for years and years dedicated to growing our great game at every level.”
As owner of Crandon Golf Academy, operating out of all three Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Golf Courses, Fernandez is committed to junior golf and growing the game amongst the community of all ages and backgrounds.
With Crandon Golf Academy being a staple of Junior Golf programming, Fernandez and his team offer a variety of opportunities for juniors, culminating over 2,500 hours dedicated to junior activities yearly.
“Programs over the last 15 years have directly led to a sense of community at the facility,” Fernandez said. “I am now instructing children of the first participants in our facility.”
Fernandez believes his biggest contribution to youth player development has been the success and impact of PGA Junior League at three facilities.
Starting in 2018, the program had 7o participants join before growing to 130 in 2019, the most for any single facility in Florida and South Georgia. This past year, Crandon Golf Academy saw a 100 percent increase in enrollment.
“This incredible result could not be possible without the commitment of both my staff and parents, wishing to expose the game of golf to their children,” Fernandez explained. “My entire staff at Crandon Golf Academy believes golf is a universal language, bridging all socioeconomic backgrounds”
The Youth Player Development Award is one of the South Florida PGA’s annual awards. The SFPGA will honor Fernandez and present his award December 3rd.
