Coach and Student Duo win the 2023 SFPGA Pro-Junior
West Palm Beach, FL -
Joe Kern, PGA and Jackson Hiller, a South Florida PGA Junior Tour Member captured the 2023 South Florida PGA Pro-Junior title, presented by Callaway and Toptracer, with a 15-under total at The Park West Palm.
After a four year hiatus, the Pro-Junior returned to the South Florida Section schedule for the first time since 2019. The event consisted of 52 two-person teams, one South Florida PGA professionals and one junior (age 18 and under) playing in an 18-hole event featuring two different formats. The front nine played as a better-ball format while the back nine was played as a scramble.
Kern, the Director of Instruction at The Moorings at Hawks Nest Golf Club and Jackson Hiller, the 2023 South Florida Junior PGA Championship, managed a clean scorecard that included 11 birdies and two eagles.
“We just made everything, it was freaky,” Kern and Hiller said.
It is no surprise the two were able to play well together as Kern teaches Hiller and the two just came off a T7 finish at the South Florida PGA Southeast Chapter Pro-Scratch, July 17th. Hiller is also coming off a win at the South Florida Junior PGA Championship, earning him a spot into the National Junior PGA Championship.
The coach and student duo led the field in par-4 and par-5 scoring average, playing both a 6-under. Kern and Hiller played the back nine at 9-under 27, the best nine hole stretch by any team in the field.
Josh McCormack, PGA Assistant Professional at Tiburon Golf Club and junior, Spencer Ives finished in solo second at 12-under while Zack Shriver, PGA Assistant Professional at North Palm Beach Country Club and Ryder Kenney finished in third at 10-under.
The 2023 SFPGA Pro-Junior was presented by Callaway and Toptracer and supported by Branded Bills. Thank you to the Park West Palm PGA General Manager, Brian Conley and PGA Director of Golf, Cody Sinkler for hosting.
