South Florida PGA Defends, Keeps the 42nd Annual Challenge Cup

For the second consecutive year, the South Florida PGA downed North Florida PGA to successfully defend the 42nd Annual Challenge Cup.
Team South Florida earned 20.5 points to North Florida’s 3.5 points in Ryder Cup-style matches played yesterday and today at Dye Preserve Golf Club in Jupiter. The 20.5-point total is the highest point total earned by a team throughout the historic rivalry.
After racing out to a fast start in yesterday morning’s four-ball matches, South Florida never looked back and continued to dominate in the foursome matches Wednesday afternoon and the singles matches this morning.
South Florida yielded just a half point to North Florida on day one and entered today with an 11.5-0.5 lead. Playing in his first Challenge Cup, Justin Hicks, PGA of Stonebridge Golf and Country Club was the first to the clubhouse today after carding a 7 & 5 victory over Clint Avret, PGA to guarantee South Florida the victory.
Hicks was joined by fellow first-year Challenge Cup participant Jeremy Wells, PGA of Cypress Lake Golf Club in the clubhouse, who brought in another point with a 2 & 1 victory over Clint Avret.
Tyler Collet, Justin Smith, Andrew Filbert, Tim Cantwell, Justin Bertsch, Jason Martin and Alan Morin continued the victory lap, all delivering wins to push the point total to 20.5.
With the win, South Florida earns the Challenge Cup for the 26th time while North Florida remains at 14 victories.
Each team was made up of 12 PGA Professionals who earned an invitation based on ROLEX Player of the Year Points Standings. Chris Kaufman, PGA of BallenIsles Country Club captained South Florida’s winning efforts, with the following PGA Professionals:
