Kartrude and Tucker Win Fort Lauderdale Open Presented by Srixon | Cleveland | Nike
Davie, FL - Michael Kartude, PGA defeats Justin Hicks, PGA in a one-hole playoff to win the Fort Lauderdale Open presented by Srixon | Cleveland | Nike at Grande Oaks Golf Club and Lago Mar Country Club.
Kartrude, an Assistant Professional at the Bear’s Club fired a tournament low, 7-under 64 in the final round to come back from four shots down and force a playoff with Hicks, a Teaching Professional at Stonebridge Country Club. The playoff lasted just one hole as Katrude made par to claim the title, finishing the two day Championship at 9-under 70-64–134.
Katrude previously won the Fort Lauderdale Open in 2020 as an Associate, now only becoming a full Class-A PGA of America Golf Professional in April, Katrude has successfully won his first event as a full Member.
Domenico Geminiani of Old Corkscrew Golf Club, Nick Latimer, PGA of Trump International Golf Club and Tyler Collet, PGA of John’s Island Club all finished in a tie for third at 8-under.
In the Senior Division, Jerry Tucker, PGA claimed victory with an 11-under 65-67–132 total, defeating Rod Curl, PGA of Crane Watch at Evergreen by four shots. Over the 36 holes, Tucker managed only one bogey. In a tie for third was Jared Issacs, PGA of Adios Golf Club and Mark Brown, PGA of The Yacht and Country Club while Brett Melton, PGA of Apogee Club and Mike Melton, PGA of Fairwinds Golf Club rounded out the top-5 in a tie.
The Fort Lauderdale Open was the first of four Section Majors to be played throughout the 2024 SFPGA Section season.
This year’s Championship was presented by Srixon | Cleveland | Nike and supported by Golf Sign and Design, Prize Possessions, Maui Jim and Strackaline.
