Justin Bertsch, PGA and Daniel Heaslip, PGA Capture Yamaha Junior-Senior
Atlantis, FL - Justin Bertsch, PGA and Daniel Heaslip, PGA made birdie on the third playoff hole to win the Yamaha Junior-Senior over David Ladd, PGA and Paul Scaletta, PGA at Lost City Golf Club.
At the conclusion of play Bertsch/Heaslip and Ladd/Scaletta were tied at 10-under. The two teams would play a modified alternate shot, sudden death playoff. After both teams made two consecutive pars, Bertsch stuck his approach shot inside eight feet, to take the advantage on the third hole After a two-putt par from Ladd/Scaletta, Heaslip, PGA Director of Golf at Windstar on Naples Bay managed to drop the birdie putt, capturing the win for Bertsch/Heaslip.
“I think our partnership goes back to close to 15 years," said Bertsch, PGA Head Professional at Club Pelican Bay. “We have gotten really close several times, so it is nice to get over the hump finally and get into the winners circle.”
Bertsch/Heaslip managed a clean scoreboard that included eight birdies and an eagle on the par-5, fifth hole that was made possible by a Bertsch 3-wood that was hit to tap in range, as Heaslip described it.
“We had some good highlights,” said Bertsch. “Dan made some great putts and hit some great drives. I hit some nice approaches, it was just great teamwork.”
Similar to Bertsch/Heaslip, Ladd/Scaletta also managed a clean scorecard that included eight birdies and an eagle on the par-5, fifth. Finishing in third place was Taylor Collins, PGA and Alan Morin, PGA at 9-under, followed by Tim Cantwell, PGA and Zach Shriver, PGA, tied with Mark Brown, PGA and Ryan Fountain, PGA.
The 18-hole stroke-play event was played in a 6-6-6 format, with four-ball stroke play for the first six, modified alternate shot for the next six and scramble for the final six holes. The event included 52 teams of one Senior PGA Professional (50+) and one Junior PGA Professional (-50) to make up the 104 person field.
Yamaha served as the title partner of the 2023 SFPGA Yamaha Junior-Senior Championship while Global Golf Sales and LevelWear served as supporting partners.
