Imperial Hosts PGA Professionals Lee-Heller Win South Florida Pro-Assistant Championship
NAPLES -- (June 14, 2019) - There's a reason why they call it local knowledge.
PGA General Manager, John Lee and PGA Assistant Golf Professional, Michael Heller, both from Imperial Golf Club, won the South Florida PGA Pro-Assistant Championship on Imperial Golf Clubs East and West Courses.
Lee and Heller combined to make 12 birdies and an eagle to shoot 14-under 94 Friday in the 27-hole competition, finishing a shot ahead of Jonathan Pazdera, PGA Head Golf Professional and David Guy, PGA Assistant Golf Professional of Cypress Lake Country Club.
""It does help to have that local knowledge, but you've got to take care of everyone while they're here,"" said Lee, who has worked at the course since 1993. ""The staff does a great job, so I just had to show up and play golf today.""
Lee and Heller showed up early, making an eagle on their first hole of alternate shot. After a good drive by Heller, Lee hit a 3-wood to 25 feet and Heller made the putt. ""That was a great way to start, especially in the toughest format,"" Lee said. The teams played nine holes of alternate shot, best ball and scramble.
Lee teamed up with Joe Allinder, PGA Director of Golf at Imperial Golf Club to win the Pro-Assistant in 1998 when it was a statewide competition.
""You have to bring good partners,"" Lee said.
Three teams finished tied for third at 11-under 97: Zachary Hammerberg, PGA and Mark Hamstra, PGA of Kelly Greens Golf and Country Club, Adam DeArmond, PGA and Michael Welch of Bonita National Golf Club and Zachary Brady, PGA and John Bednar, PGA of Palm Beach Country Club.
The Pro-Assistant, staged by the South Florida PGA, is supported by Chase 54, Club Car, Global Golf Sales, GolfBuddy, PGA Tour, TaylorMade and Winner's Award Group.
