Bertsch of Naples Captures 2019 TechnoGym Fort Lauderdale Open Prior to Heading to the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage
Golfers are like surfers. They ride the wave as long as they can. Justin Bertsch is the latest example.
He finished last year winning the South Florida PGA Section's final event. Last week, he finished 14th at the PGA Professional Championship to earn a spot in next week's PGA Championship at Bethpage Black.
Tuesday, Bertsch, the PGA Head Golf Professional at Hideaway Golf Club in Naples, shot a 5-under 66 to finish his domination of the Section's first event, the TechnoGym Fort Lauderdale Open.
Bertsch finished at 12-under 130 to win by five shots over Johnny Schwaller, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
This is one of the Section's major events. ""I came here with a lot of confidence,"" Bertsch said. ""I'm definitely playing well. Made one bogey in 36 holes.""
No surprise Andrew Filbert, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples played well. He was the two-time defending champion, kickstarting seasons where he was named South Florida PGA Player of the Year. He will also is headed to Bethpage with Bertsch next week after earning his way in through a sudden death playoff.
Filbert (68-136)
finished third and has a boost of confidence after qualifying for next week's PGA.
Alan Morin (72) PGA Assistant Golf Professional at The Falls Club, an eight-time section Player of the Year, finished fourth at 137. Morin, who won this tournament twice, tied with Nick Pincket, Mike Welch and Brett Blackburn.
The TechnoGym Fort Lauderdale Open was supported by Argolf, EZLinks, Global Golf Sales, Golf Buddy and Saint Nine.
