Annual Awards

Each year, the South Florida PGA honors one deserving PGA member in each of the following categories:

 2023 Annual Award Recipients

Lee Stroever, PGA

The Golf Professional of the Year Award is determined annually to honor the working PGA Professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA Professional. The award embraces a wide range of services executed by the PGA Professional and is the highest annual honor bestowed upon a PGA Professional in the South Florida Section.

Renee O'Higgins, PGA

The Teacher of the Year Award honors outstanding teachers of golf among the ranks of the SFPGA membership. This award is based on the PGA Professional’s overall performance in teaching; unusual, innovative and special teaching programs that the Professional has initiated or played a key role in implementing; articles published in books and magazines; as well as outstanding golfers the Professional has instructed.

Steve Hudson, PGA

The PGA Professional Development Award supports the Section's continuing work to promote and improve the educational programs throughout the Section. The award honors a PGA Member for outstanding contributions to professional education.

Sara Dickson, PGA

The Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to a PGA Professional who by their day-to-day efforts have distinguished themselves by mentoring their fellow PGA Professionals in improving their employment situations and through service to the community.

Mike Richards, PGA

The Player Development Award recognizes PGA Professionals at the Section level for extraordinary and exemplary contributions in Player Development.

Jason Miller, PGA

The PGA Youth Player Development Award is for the PGA Professional who has made extraordinary and exemplary contributions to youth player development. Work by this PGA Professional includes involvement in the promotion and development of junior golf at the facility level and support for national junior golf programs.

Matt Oakley, PGA

The PGA of America established the Deacon Palmer Award, named after Arnold Palmer’s late father who overcame personal obstacles to succeed as a PGA Professional, in 2014. The Section Award bestows special recognition upon a PGA Professional who personally displays outstanding integrity, character and leadership in the effort to overcome a major obstacle in his/her life.

Ryan Fountain, PGA

Recognizes the individual’s overall performance as an assistant through his/her willingness to accept responsibility, promotion of the game, and his/her promotion of the overall image of the PGA.

Scott Lien, PGA

The Merchandiser of the Year Award recognizes those PGA Professionals who have excelled as businesspersons/merchandisers in the promotion of golf. The Section honors PGA Professionals in three categories: private, public and resort facilities.

Gary Keating, PGA

The Merchandiser of the Year Award recognizes those PGA Professionals who have excelled as businesspersons/merchandisers in the promotion of golf. The Section honors PGA Professionals in three categories: private, public and resort facilities.

Ken Weyand, PGA

The Merchandiser of the Year Award recognizes those PGA Professionals who have excelled as businesspersons/merchandisers in the promotion of golf. The Section honors PGA Professionals in three categories: private, public and resort facilities.

Jon Davis, PGA

Honors a sales representative (hard or soft good) serving the Section who has made significant contributions to the game of golf at the Section level and within his/her company and whose overall performance as a sales representative including service to accounts, overall integrity, courtesy, and professionalism is second to none.

Pam Elders, PGA

The Patriot Award is presented by the Section to a PGA Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf and demonstrates unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the United States of America. This award 2019 first honored a member at the Section level in 2019.
