Todd Frey, PGA HOPE Ambassador, returns from the PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week
Bethesda, MD - Todd Frey, South Florida PGA HOPE graduate and recently elected PGA HOPE ambassador joined 19 other HOPE graduates for the 2025 PGA HOPE National Golf and Wellness Week, October 8-13 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD.
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) introduces and teaches golf to Veterans and Active Duty Military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. Led by PGA of America Golf Professionals, the program is inclusive of a developmental 6-8 week curriculum. All programs are provided at no cost to all participating Veterans.
The PGA HOPE National Golf and Wellness Week annually welcomes 20 PGA HOPE Graduates to an immersive five-day event that includes golf instruction from PGA of America Golf Professionals and wellness training from the Cohen Veterans Network — covering topics from social media, public speaking, stress management, mental health and more.

For Frey, the experience truly highlights the importance of expanding beyond just playing golf, but rather training physically and mentally. Doing activities like stretching and specific golf exercises for PGA HOPE students to improve their physical health resulting in an improved golf game.
“This doesn’t just apply to golf; it applies to life,” Frey says about the importance of these activities.
While in the Navy, Frey served as a Chief Petty Officer (CPO). As a Chief in the Navy, he needed to be an expert in his field, but more than that, he had to take care of, train, and mentor hundreds of officers, while leading them at the same time.
“I wanted to make sure that anyone who came to me or needed something, I was available,” Frey explained.
“Ask the Chief” is a phrase that Frey would often use while in the Navy. For Frey, the Chief has to be the expert on every subject matter that he covers.
This is the mindset that Frey wants to take with him now that he has officially become a National PGA HOPE Ambassador. Whether it’s golf professionals needing insight on PGA HOPE students, getting other veterans involved in PGA HOPE, or anything related to supporting the community, Frey wants to be the “Chief” that people go to when they are in need.
Coming into National Golf & Wellness Week, Frey was not just looking forward to the community aspect of the week, but also the golf instruction side of things.
“One of the reasons I sought out PGA HOPE to begin with was because I wanted to learn to play the game of golf,” Frey said. “I wanted to be better at the game of golf to use it as a therapy for my own challenges.”
Frey highlights the importance for other players and PGA HOPE students to learn the game of golf to use it as a tool for therapy. He has expertise as a Chief, but didn’t have that same level of knowledge for golf. As an Ambassador, Frey is most looking forward to gaining that level of expertise to bring back and share with others.
A message that Frey would like to share with all PGA HOPE graduates and students is to “savor the moment you have with the PGA Professionals and Instructors because that is priceless.”
Recently, Frey said in a social media post, “It was truly an honor to stand alongside fellow veterans, ambassadors, and leaders who share the same purpose - using the game of golf to inspire healing, connection, and hope.”
The South Florida PGA is honored and proud to welcome Frey as a National PGA HOPE ambassador.
