The Club at Quail Ridge Hosts 2024 SFPGA Teaching Symposium
The South Florida PGA hosted its annual Teaching Symposium, September 9-10 at The Club at Quail Ridge, headlined by Chris Como, Iain Highfield and Kevin Weeks, PGA.
This year’s symposium allowed South Florida PGA Golf Professionals to learn extensive coaching techniques and philosophies led by several nationally recognized Instructors. Day one started off with a special question and answer session led by Weeks, 2023 National PGA of America Teacher of the Year and SFPGA Teaching and Coaching Committee member Kellie Stenzel, PGA Teaching Professional at the Palm Beach Par 3.
The group was then introduced to GolfForever, a swing trainer used by world #1, Scottie Scheffler. The group participated in several training techniques with the goal of extending your golfing lifespan.
Following lunch the group heard from Iain Highfield, the Academy Director and Mental Performance Coach for KOHR Golf. Iain’s presentation was centered around coaching strategies that lead to retention & transfer of skills from the range, to the course. Prior to closing out the day, Foresight Sports provided a brief presentation before ending the day by celebrating the 2023 South Florida PGA Teacher of the Year, Renee O’Higgins, PGA.
Day two took the group outside to learn from many rising stars in the coaching world - Derek Swoboda, PGA, Grayson Zacker, PGA, Jon McLean, PGA, and Alex Iguchi, PGA. To close out the program, Chris Como joined the program in a panel discussion led by Kevin Weeks and Jason Baile. He shared his knowledge, experience, and stories on how his career has evolved and the students he has been able to coach overtime.
