Team South Florida Set to Take On Team North Florida in Annual Challenge Cup, Supported by FootJoy
The South Florida PGA and the North Florida PGA will meet this week for the annual Challenge Cup, supported by FootJoy played this year at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
Each year, the two Sections put together a team to compete against eachother in a match-play style format. The teams are based on the North Florida PGA and South Florida PGA Player of the Year points and must include the top 10 juniors and two seniors.
Team South Florida is led by captain Jack Shoenfelt who is joined by SFPGA Player of the Year Justin Bertsch. Joining Schwaller and Bertsch are Alan Morin, Andrew Filbert, Johnny Schwaller, Roger Kenedy, Pete Oakley, Justin McCarraher, Kent Graham, Adam Miller, Adam Scrimenti, Tyler Collet and Brett Blackburn.
Beginning today, players will go out in teams to compete in two rounds of four-ball match play, one round in the morning and one round later this afternoon followed by a round tomorrow morning of singles match play. Like the Ryder Cup, each victory is worth one team point and halved matches are worth a half point to each team. The team with the highest point total at the conclusion of the matches will be declared the Challenge Cup Champion. In the event of a tie, the team currently in possession of the cup will retain it.
For the last two years, team South Florida has had possession of the Cup and will look to hold onto it for a third straight year.
