South Florida PGA Wins Fifth Straight Senior Challenge Cup
West Palm Beach, FL - For the fifth consecutive year the South Florida PGA defeated the North Florida PGA in the 20th Annual Senior Challenge Cup Matches, played October 28-29 at The Breakers Rees Jones Course at Breakers West Country Club.
The South Florida PGA, captained by Roger Kennedy Sr., PGA Life Member, earned 20.5 points to North Florida’s 10.5 points in the annual Ryder Cup style matches. The two-day event was broken up into four separate formats, played over 36-holes.

The opening nine began with four-ball matches that saw the SFPGA take an early 4.5 to 2.5 lead. Mark Mielke, PGA and Mark Brown, PGA earned the first full point in their 4&3 win followed by Tim Cantwell, PGA and Stan Geer, PGA claiming a 3&2 win. Colin Amaral, PGA and Jared Isaacs, PGA managed a 1-up win as Alan Morin, PGA and Kostelnik, PGA added the last full point of the opening session with a 2&1 win.
The back-nine played as a modified foursome format in which the SFPGA earned 4.5 points to North Florida’s 1.5, bringing the day one total to 9-4 in favor of the SFPGA. The teams of Mielke/Brown, Amaral/Isaacs and Morin/Kostelnik each added their second points of the day as Joe Kern, PGA and David Ladd, PGA secured a 3&2 win.
Heading into the final day which began with a 9-hole scramble, the SFPGA needed 6.5 points to retain the Cup and 7 to win it outright.
The SFPGA did not drop a match in the scramble format, winning four and tying two, bringing the point tally to 14-5.
Heading into singles matches, Peter Oakley, PGA and Mielke earned 2&1 victories before a 4&3 win from Amaral clinched the retaining point. Moments later, a 5&4 victory from Kostelnik sealed the win, bringing the overall Cup record to 16-3-1 in favor of the SFPGA.
Isaacs and Cantwell continued the victory lap with 2&1 wins to bring the final score to 20.5 to 10.5.
Each team was made up of 12 PGA Professionals who earned an invitation based on ROLEX Senior Player of the Year Points Standings. The following PGA Professionals made up the South Florida PGA team:
