SFPGA Senior Challenge Cup Team Brings Cup Back to South Florida
The South Florida PGA Senior Challenge Cup team defeated North Florida this afternoon by a score of 24 to 6, returning the cup back to south Florida for the first time in two years.
Hosted by the South Florida PGA at Club Pelican Bay in Naples, the two teams competed in 36 holes throughout the last two days. Round one included a nine-hole scramble and nine holes of four-ball match play. Round two included nine holes of foursome match play and nine holes of single match play.
South Florida led the matches 12-0 after the first round and further extended their lead to 24-6 following the conclusion of round two.
This year's team was led by Roger Kennedy Sr., PGA and represented by Gene Fieger, PGA (Club Pelican Bay), Stan Geer, PGA (Bentley Village Golf Course), Chris Kaufman, PGA (BallenIsles Country Club), Joe Kern, PGA (The Moorings at Hawks Nest Golf Club), John Lee, PGA (Imperial Golf Club), Alan Morin, PGA (The Club at Ibis), Pete Oakley, PGA (Life Member), Mike San Filippo, PGA (Life Member), Jack Shoenfelt, PGA (Oriole Golf & Tennis Club), Jerry Tucker, PGA (Jerry Tucker Golf), Mike Valicenti, PGA (Mayacoo Lakes Country Club) and Steve Vecellio, PGA (Frenchman's Reserve).
The Challenge Cup Matches are an invitation-only event. Invitations are based on ROLEX Player of the Year Points Standings where the top 10 seniors and two super-seniors from each Section are invited to compete.
