Sacristan, Fischer Win Overall Titles in South Florida PGA Junior Tour Championship
JUPITER (Dec, 9, 2019) -- Sebastian Sacristan needed a timeout from golf. Jordan Fischer needs a bigger trophy case.
Sacristan and Fischer both got what they wanted Sunday - victories in the South Florida PGA Junior Tour Championship Presented by Honda Classic at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club at Old Trail.
Sacristan, a 15-year-old Coral Springs resident, won the boys overall title with a 2-over 73 on the Hills course to finish at 1-over 143, a shot ahead of Maxmilian Jelinek (75), Tyler Stachkunas (73), Natthawat Sakchawanpob (70) and Jack Hasson (69).
"It's the biggest victory I've ever had," said Sacristan, a 10th grader at American Heritage in Plantation. "Lately, my tournaments haven't been going my way, so I took a week off to get my mental game up to date. I was stressing out and not having enough fun. To come back and win this was pretty big."
Fischer, a 14-year-old North Fort Myers resident who is home schooled, won for the third time in four starts on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour. She shot a 1-over 72 for a two-day total of 3-over 145 to win by two over Nicole Yugay (75-147). Brianna Castaldi (74) and Amelia Novoa tied for third (78) at 152.
"I was kind of nervous during the round because I was playing with the two leaders, but my nerves went down because I was playing well," Fischer said. "It's pretty cool to win for the third time on this tour."
Stachkunas, Sakchawanpob and Hasson shared first place in the boys 16-18 division. Sacristan won the 13-15 division and Emil Lebrun (74-146) won the 11-12 group.
Lauren Davenport (76-153) won the girls 16-18 division, edging Amelie Alcantara (75-154) and Agatha Alesson (81-154). Fischer won the girls 13-15 group by two over Yugay. Ariana Silva shot a 69 - tying Hasson for the low round of the week - to win the girls 11-12 division at 7-over 149 by 16 over Sara Davey (82-165).
