BOCA RATON (July 26, 2022) – Ryan Fountain, PGA of Jupiter fired a 6-under 66 Tuesday, his second in a row, to win the South Florida PGA Assistant Professional Championship at Bocaire Country Club.
Fountain, a PGA Assistant Professional at the Bear’s Club in Jupiter, finished at 12-under 132 to win by five shots over Domenico Geminiani of Old Corkscrew Golf Club. Fountain made only one bogey in the 36 holes despite lengthy weather delays Tuesday.
Fountain said he was motivated to play well after finishing 47th in last month’s E-Z-GO South Florida Open, when he shot rounds of 67-78-80.
“It didn’t go the way I wanted at the South Florida Open, and I wanted to prove I’m a better player than that,” Fountain said. “I got to prove it to myself that I can do it, and I did it against some of the best players in the country. This one really feels good.”
Fountain led the field by going 8-under on the par-5s, averaging a birdie a hole. He led by two entering the final round and steadily pulled away.
“The weather didn’t look great, but I wanted to get back out there and get it done,” Fountain said. “I pretty much did everything well.”
The top five finishers earned spots into the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Professional Championship on Nov. 17-20 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. They included the trio at 6-under 138: Ben Spector (69) of Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, Tyler Collet (70) of John’s Island Club and Andrew Filbert (70) of West Bay Club.
Defending champion Evan Bowser (73-144) of LaPlaya Golf Club tied for 14th.
The South Florida PGA Assistant Professional Championship, run by the South Florida PGA, is presented by National Car Rental. Supporting partners are Jani-King, XXIO and Srixon/Cleveland/ASICS.
