The Road to Augusta National Starts This Weekend With the First South Florida PGA DCP Qualifier
The first of 10 local Drive, Chip and Putt Qualifiers administered by the South Florida PGA will take place this weekend at Vineyards Country Club in Naples.
Founded in 2013, Drive, Chip and Putt is a joint initiative through the Masters Tournament, the United States Golf Association and the PGA of America to grow the game of golf by offering a free nationwide competition.
Boys and girls, ages 7-15, can sign up and participate in any of the 10 qualifiers throughout south Florida and many others throughout the nation. Contestants compete in the three disciplines of driving, chipping and putting for the chance to advance to Augusta National Golf Club for the national competition, held in advance of the Masters.
Throughout the 10 stops this summer, the South Florida PGA expects to host nearly 1,000 junior golfers. In 2019 (2020 was canceled due to covid-19), five junior golfers from the south Florida area advanced to the national tournament with Elyse Meerdink taking home first place in the Girls 10-11 Division.
