Matsui and Plenge Win Second Championship Tour Event
The SFPGA Championship Tour held its second tournament of the season at Jensen Beach Golf Club, formerly Eagle Marsh, this past weekend. This marks the first junior tournament held at Jensen Beach.
With sunny skies all weekend, Erik Plenge of Royal Palm Beach took home the boys division title, his first win on the SFPGA Championship Tour. Plenge carded nine birdies, two of which were back-to-back on his first two holes on Saturday, to finish one-under-par for the tournament. Jack Dunham of Tarpon Springs finished four strokes behind Plenge at three-over-par. Dunham carded a total of 10 birdies this weekend but it wasn't quite enough to beat out Plenge.
Hina Matsui of Port St. Lucie claimed the girls division title. Matsui’s two-day score of 2-under, 142, saw her hole nine birdies. Six of those were carded during her second round to go three-under-par on Sunday. This is Matsui’s first win on the Junior Tour since her win at the South Florida Junior Open in 2019. Ariana Silva of Fort Lauderdale finished four strokes behind Matsui. Silva’s scorecard saw three birdies on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Plenge and Matsui will each be receiving four AJGA stars for their win and the top 10% of boys and girls will receive one star.
The South Florida PGA Junior Championship Tour is a series of two-day events at some of South Florida’s premier facilities. Membership is invitation only. Juniors are invited based on the previous year’s Junior Tour scoring average and point standings, and current year’s performance prior to session checkpoints.
