Mark Mielke, PGA Wins SFPGA Omega Senior Player of the Year Points Race
ATLANTIS, FL - Mark Mielke, PGA Life Member, has been named the South Florida PGA Senior Omega Player of the Year for the second time in his career. Mielke previously earned the honor in 2017.
Mielke's outstanding play this season led him to the top of the leaderboard in the season-long points race, earning 1,260.25 points in 17 events. The Lake Worth resident edged out Pete Oakley, PGA Life Member, for the honor.
"It's awesome to be recognized as the best senior player in one of the most competitive sections in the country," said Mielke. "It's very gratifying that my putting, short game and full swing philosophies are productive under tournament conditions. It's exciting for me to study the game and try to improve each year."
With eight top 10 finishes this season, Mielke's best finish was second place at the Florida Senior Open in May. Mielke followed this up with a fifth-place finish at the Technogym Fort Lauderdale Open and third place at the South Florida Senior Open to round out an incredible May.
Additionally, after finishing in a tie for sixth place at the South Florida PGA Senior Professional Championship, Mielke played in the 2019 PGA Professional Championship earlier this month in Austin, Texas and capped off his season in incredible fashion.
Mielke (277) finished tied for eighth to be one of 35 PGA Professionals to qualify for the 2020 Senior PGA Championship, part of the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour.
