Justo and Jenkins Claim Challenge Tour Victory
Sixty-one junior golfers took to Copperleaf Golf Club this weekend for the sixth Challenge Tour event of the season. Through rain and shine on Sunday resulting in a short weather delay, these players were eager to get back out on the course.
The boys 13-18 division resulted in a tie between Antonio Justo of Miami Shores and Braden Miller of Naples. After a playoff between the two, Justo took home the win. With a total of six birdies during his two rounds, Justo finished the tournament at even-par to win his first Challenge Tour event on Sunday.
With a two-over-par 146 finish, Pearl Jenkins of Naples claimed the girls 13-18 division title. Jenkins’ two rounds saw her six birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5 on Sunday. This is her first win on the Challenge Tour. Sara Vitasek of Naples placed second with a two-day total of 152.
Ignacio Hurtado of Weston took home the boys 11-12 division title with a one-over-par for the weekend. Hurtado’s second round included back-to-back birdies on the front for a total of five birdies at the tournament. This marks Hurtado’s first win on the Challenge Tour. Finishing behind Hurtado was Liam Ly of Delray Beach with a two-day total of 151.
Avery Deal of Naples claimed the girl’s 11-12 division title with a two-day total of 172. This is Deal’s first win on the Challenge Tour, having previously placed third at last month’s event at Vineyards Country Club.
