John Lee, PGA Named 2024 South Florida PGA Challenge Cup Captain
West Palm Beach, FL - John Lee, PGA General Manager at Imperial Golf Club, has been named captain of the South Florida PGA team for the 44th Annual Challenge Cup Matches, hosted by the SFPGA in October.
Started in 1981, the Challenge Cup is a long-standing tradition between the top PGA Professionals in the North and South Florida Sections, competing in Ryder Cup-style matches. The field is by invitation and is based on Player of the Year Points Standings, where the top 12 players from each Section are invited to compete.
"I'm looking forward to being the captain of such an outstanding group of players," said Lee, A seven-time Challenge Cup Champion. "Qualifying for, and playing on Section Challenge Cup teams has always been a goal for the South Florida Section players."
A PGA of America Golf Professional and Member of the South Florida PGA Section since 1989, Lee has a proven track record as a player, being named the 1993 Section Player of the Year and the 1995 South Florida PGA Section Champion.
Additionally, Lee has competed on 10 Challenge Cup Teams and four Senior Challenge Cup teams, winning nine in total. As we near the 44th annual competition, south Florida holds a commanding lead in the Cup count, winning 28 total Cup Matches to North Florida's 13.
"I'm looking forward to seeing some really good golf," explained Lee. "The South Florida Section has some of the best players under the PGA of America umbrella, which shows each year at the Chapter, Section, and National levels."
South Florida, coming off a 16.5 to 7.5 point win last year, will look to win its fourth consecutive Cup. The team will be finalized following the final event of the South Florida PGA tournament season, the South Florida PGA Professional Championship, September 18-20 at Imperial Golf Club.
