Jensen Beach Golf Club Hosts Weekend Challenge Tour Event
Seventy-six junior golfers enjoyed two rounds at Jensen Beach Golf Club this weekend for the SFPGA Challenge Tour.
Elijah Zamarron of Sunrise secured the boys 13-18 division title with a two-day total of 151, including eight birdies. This marks back-to-back wins for Zamarron on the Challenge Tour. After carding a 77 during Saturday’s round, Zamarron bounced back with a 74. Maddox Vincent of Draper, Utah finished one stroke behind Zamarron at eight-over.
Madison Lowenstein of Boca Raton won the girls 13-18 division with a two-day total of 156. Lowenstein’s two rounds saw her five birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6 during Saturday’s round. Five strokes behind Lowenstein was Angela Jiang of Coral Gables.
With a tournament finish of three-under-par, Brooks Colton of Riviera Beach won the boys 11-12 division. Colton carded a total of nine birdies over the two days, seven of which were from Sunday’s round. This marks Colton’s first win on the Challenge Tour. Evan Pena of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico and Sohan Patel of Weston tied for second, with Pena ultimately taking home the title after a scorecard playoff. Pena finished four strokes behind Colton at one-over-par.
Juno Taino of Studio City, Calif. won the girls 11-12 division with a two-day total of 165. Despite being only 10-years-old, Taino showed she has what it takes to compete on the Challenge Tour. This is Taino’s first SFPGA Junior Tour event as well as her first win.
Saturday’s round served as a qualifier for the South Florida Junior PGA Championship. There were five available spots for the boys and a single spot for the girls division.
