Gabriel Holtz, Marley Pedrique Win South Florida PGA Labor Day Classic

WEST PALM BEACH (Sept. 5, 2022) – Gabriel Holtz of Boca Raton birdied the 18th hole Monday to win the South Florida PGA Labor Day Classic at Banyan Golf Club.
Marley Pedrique, a 12-year-old from West Palm Beach, won the girls’ title by shooting a 2-over 74 to claim a two-shot victory over Ann-Sophie Bourgault of Naples.
Holtz was tied for the lead with Mateo Desmond (72) of Pompano Beach until he closed with the birdie to cap a 5-under 31 on his back nine. Holtz shot 5-under 67 and finished at 7-under 209.
Holtz was 1-over through six holes, before playing his last 12 in 6-under. He eagled the par-3 10th and added three birdies on the back nine.
Aiden Arce (76-216) of Davie tied for third with Evan Pana (71-226) of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico.
In the girls, Pedrique, Bourgault and Angela Nip of Port St. Lucie entered the final round tied for first place at 5-over 149. Pedrique was two shots behind Borgault at the turn, but a birdie at the first (her 10th) started her comeback that was completed when she birdied No. 7.
“I was just trying to trickle it near the hole, and it went in,” said Pedrique, who is home schooled. “I putted pretty well this week.”
Nip shot 81 and finished sixth. Krishny Elwin (74-226) of Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico was third.
The South Florida PGA Labor Day Classic, run by the South Florida PGA, is Presented by the Honda Classic.
