Chris Kaufman, PGA Named 2022 South Florida PGA Challenge Cup Captain
Chris Kaufman, PGA, Teaching Professional at BallenIsles Country Club, will serve as the captain of the South Florida Challenge Cup team for the 42 nd Annual Challenge Cup matches.
The Challenge Cup is a long-standing tradition between the top PGA Professionals from the North and South Florida PGA Sections. The format includes a first-round four-ball match play, a second-round foursome match play and a third-round singles match play.
“It is a great honor to be captain of the Challenge Cup team,” said Kaufman. “The matches are the one event annually that I have always looked forward to.”
The current South Florida PGA Senior Chairperson, Kaufman is well-decorate himself as the 2011 South Florida PGA Professional Championship, 8-time member of the Challenge Cup team and he has participated in many national PGA of America, PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events, most recently the 2018 U.S. Senior Open.
The Challenge Cup matches are invitation-only event. Invitations are based on Player of the Year Points Standings where the top 10 juniors and two seniors from each Section are invited to compete. The 2022 event will take place October 26-27 at Dye Preserve Golf Club.
“We have so many great players in our Section and it will be a pleasure to watch them play and help strategize,” explained Kaufman. “I think we will have a great team and will retain the cup.”
South Florida, who broke a two-year drought to bring the cup home by a score of 17.5 to 6.5 last year, will look to win its second consecutive cup. The team will be finalized following the final event of the South Florida PGA tournament season, the South Florida PGA Professional Championship September 13-15 at Imperial Golf Club.
