Boca West hosts Veteran's Day Celebrations

Boca West hosts Veteran's Day Celebrations

Monday, November 4th all PGA HOPE graduates were invited to attend an early Veteran’s Day celebration at Boca West Country Club. The entire day involved an inaugural PGA HOPE Match and a backyard barbeque to celebrate our nation’s heroes.

The day began with the first ever PGA HOPE Match between two teams of six veterans representing two HOPE Hubs in south Florida. HOPE Miami and HOPE West Palm Beach were represented in this nine-hole scramble match between military veterans that participated in this free golf clinic. Originally a dream of PGA HOPE instructors became a reality as these veterans went head-to-head on the greens of Boca West Country Club. Team Miami won getting to show off their skills they acquired during their time in PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere).

The match was followed by a luncheon that was initiated by a presentation of colors by the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office, and the national anthem was sang by a freshman from Saint Andrew’s School. The day continued with golf skill competitions for the additional veterans in attendance. Each golf skill winner was awarded for their success.

Food, fun and golf was had by all. Thanks are in order to the PGA Professionals that organized this program, including JR Friend who concocted the idea of this event. And thanks to a PGA HOPE instructor Pam Elders, PGA for facilitating this event. We are looking forward to the many events that our network of military veterans are able to enjoy and celebrate with their fellow servicemen and women.
