JUPITER (May 13, 2022) – Mark Mielke of Atlantis shot a blistering 7-under 65 Friday to win the South Florida Senior Open by seven shots.
Mielke made seven birdies, an eagle and two bogeys at Jonathan’s Landing to shoot the 65 and finish at 13-under 131. He started the final round tied with Mike San Filippo of Hobe Sound, who finished second after a 72.

“It feels so awesome to win,” said Mielke, PGA Teaching Professional at High Ridge Country Club. “I’ve been so close the last couple of events. I played great the last couple days.”
Mielke’s victory came after a near-miss at last month’s 45th Florida Senior Open. He led by one going into the final hole, but bogeyed it and eventually lost a three-way playoff to Gene Fieger.
“That was kind of a bummer, but this is sweet revenge,” Mielke said. “There are so many good players, you have to keep playing well or they are going to catch up with you."
San Filippo was hoping to win after he got a bad break in last week’s Fort Lauderdale Open. San Filippo was in position to win the Senior Division after he led with an opening-round 67. But he and several other players missed their final-round tee time after they were caught in an accident on Florida’s Turnpike that caused a three-hour delay.
As it turned out, everybody was playing for second place Friday. Tim Cantwell of Palm Beach Gardens was closest to Mielke, but made a 10 on the par-5 15th hole.
Michael Valicenti of Jupiter shot 4-under 68 to finish tied for third at 5-under 139 with Jimmy Buell (70) of Jupiter and Matt Markle (70) of Naples.
Defending champion Alan Morin, PGA Assistant Professional at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach, shot 71 and tied for seventh at 2-under 142.
The South Florida Senior Open is administered by the South Florida PGA. Supporting partners are Relay, Jani-King, Korn Ferry Tour and Winner’s Award Group.
