Anthony Garcia, Ariana Silva Fight Tough Conditions to Win Medalist Tour Event at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne
Anthony Garcia and Ariana Silva battled tough conditions during this weekend’s South Florida PGA Junior Tour Medalist event at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne to win the Boy’s Overall and Girl’s Overall Divisions, respectively.
With gusting winds and dropping temperatures, the entire 81-player field was put to the test this weekend, March 12th and 13th. Garcia and Silva both fought to gutsy 79s on Saturday, tying the lowest score carded during round one.
Using his seven birdies and one eagle, Garcia of Miami carded a one-under 71 in the second round to finish at six-over for the tournament, eight strokes better than the field. Garcia’s second round included a three-under 32 on the opening nine, making birdie on the first two holes and an eagle on the fifth to complete the only round in all divisions under par.
Harrison Browne of Westport, CT and Jack Kantowski of Boca Raton finished in a tie for second at 14-over for the tournament.
In the Girl’s Division, Silva of Fort Lauderdale followed up her 79 with a three-over 75 on Sunday to finish at 10-over through the 36 holes of play. Silva’s 75 included an eagle on 18 to edge out runner-up Amelie Phung of Forest Hills, NY by one stroke who also carded 75 on Sunday, to add to her 80 on Saturday.
