WEST PALM BEACH (Sept. 7, 2021) – Gabriella Albert birdied three of her last five holes Monday to win the girls title in the Labor Day Classic, a South Florida PGA junior major at PGA National-Estates.
Albert’s fast finish enabled her to shoot 2-under 70 and post 2-over 218, a stroke ahead of second-round leader Lucia Ramirez (72-219) of Miami. It was Albert’s first junior major title.
“I have been having trouble finishing tournaments, but I reached a par-5 (15th) in two shots and almost made the eagle,” said Albert, a freshman at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton. “Something changed after that with my emotions. The shots just fell into place."
“It hasn’t even sunk in yet. I was crying on the 18th green because I didn’t know I had won until one of my playing partners told me. I had no idea this moment would finally come.”
Pavel Tsar of Palm Beach Gardens won the boys title with bookend 67s to finish at 12-under 204. Tsar won by four shots over Mateo Desmond (68-208) of Pompano Beach.
Jason Shwartz of Wellington fired a 65 to finish third at 7-under 209. Sam Brown was fourth (71-214).
In the girls, Addison Klonowski (75-220) of Naples was third, Angelina Marie Guertin (72-222) of Boynton Beach was fourth.
The Labor Day Classic is run by the South Florida PGA and Presented by the Honda Classic.
