Albert, Sommerville Win First SFPGA Medalist Tour Event of 2022
Port Saint Lucie - The first South Florida PGA Medalist Tour event of the 2022 season took place this weekend with Gabriella Albert winning the girls division by an impressive 10 strokes and Ryan Sommerville taking the boys title after a 3-man sudden death playoff Sunday, at Santa Lucia River Club.

With tough conditions throughout round one, Albert of Delray Beach managed to shoot 3-under 69, building a seven shot lead going into day two. Adding a 1-over 73 in the final round, Albert finished at 2-under 69-73–143, a tournament low amongst all divisions. Albert recorded eight birdies over 36 holes.
The 36-hole event was not enough to decide a boys champion as Gabriel Holtz of Boca Raton, Ismael Garcia of Port Saint Lucie and Sommerville of Port Saint Lucie all finished at 2-over, forcing a sudden-death playoff.
Sommerville and Garcia both made par on the par-4 18th while Holtz made bogey, putting him out of the playoff. Following one more playing of 18, Sommerville managed a birdie to ultimately claim the trophy.
Using 10 birdies, the most carded in the field, Sommerville shot 1-over 73 both rounds before securing the victory in the playoff. Garcia finished in second, decided by a scorecard playoff against Holtz.
Coming in second in the girls division, Angela Nip of Port Saint Lucie finished play at 8-over, 78-74–152. Nip made the most pars of any girl with 26 to go along with two birdies.
The two-day, 36-hole Medalist Tour event consisted of 81 SFPGA Junior Tour members with the girls champion receiving eight AJGA stars while the top-3 finishers earned four and the top-5 received one. The boys champion received four while the top 10 percent of finishers all received one.
The Medalist Tour at Santa Lucia River Club was the first event of the 2022 season. The regular season will continue February 19-20 at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.
