Alan Morin, PGA Claims the South Florida Senior PGA Professional Championship
Jupiter, FL - Alan Morin, PGA fires a 7-under 65 final round today at Loxahatchee Golf Club to win the South Florida Senior PGA Professional Championship and advance to the National Senior PGA Professional Championship.
In addition to being crowned the 2024 Senior Section Champion, Morin, an Assistant Professional at The Club At Ibis, along with the other eight top-finishers advanced to the Senior PGA Professional Championship, September 26-29 at Sunriver Resort in Oregon.
Since becoming eligible for the Senior Division, Morin is four for four in qualifying for the Senior PGA Championship.
Morin, the 2022 Champion, opened the 36-hole championship with a 2-under 70, enough to be in the final group and only two shots behind Tim Cantwell, PGA. Through his first eight holes, Morin was already 3-under on the day and a shot ahead of the field.
Standing over a six footer on the ninth green, the horn blew, leading to a near three hour weather delay. Once play resumed, Morin sank his birdie putt, managing a 4-under front-nine.
Morin cruised on the back-nine, adding three more birdies to turn in a clean 7-under scorecard and secure the Major win.
“It is a nice sense of accomplishment to know I can still play and compete,” explained Morin.
Finishing in second at 3-under was Tim Cantwell, PGA of PGA National Golf Club who was dealing with a hand injury which happened during the weather delay in round one. Cantwell battled through, finishing the final round at 1-over.
Ben Stewart, PGA of Grande Harbor Golf and Beach Club finished in third at 1-under, while John Neiporte, PGA of Trump International Golf Club finished in fourth at even-par. Rounding out the top-5 in a tie for fifth was Joe Kern, PGA of Mangrove Golf Club and Daniel Heaslip of Windstar at Naples Bay.
Joining Morin in the National Senior PGA Professional Championship at Sunriver Resort will be:
Tim Cantwell, Ben Stewart, John Nieporte, Joe Kern, Daniel Heaslip, Rick Gomes, Jerry Tucker and Steve McDonald.
