At the age of thirty-one, PGA Professional and South Florida PGA Player of the Year Andrew Filbert has had quite the career. As the Assistant Golf Professional at Bonita National in Bonita Springs, Filbert is surrounded with an extremely supportive membership and staff as he heads into Thursday.
“I am doing well. Battling a lot of different emotions as the tournament date gets closer; excited, nervous, anxious, you name it,” said Filbert reflecting on how it feels with The Honda Classic just around the corner.
In October of 2017, Filbert won the Professional / Section Championship earning 300 points bringing his total to 930, claiming the 2017 Player of the Year title. A perk of being named Player of the Year is playing alongside PGA Tour Professionals in The Honda Classic.
“I am really looking forward to playing in my first PGA tour event especially The Honda Classic. It has been a goal / dream to play a phase event since I picked up the game at age 13 in a small town in Gering, NE. Hopefully I can execute the game plan and use this experience to help me compete in Web.com Tour Q School. Regardless of the outcome, the experience itself will be a lot of fun and very memorable,” says Filbert.
Ryan Petretti, Filbert’s coach for the last three years, will be caddying alongside the PGA Professional.
We look forward to seeing Andrew on the field with some of the biggest names in golf and wish him luck!
Filbert tees off at 1:15 PM on Thursday.
