This weekend, 40 of south Florida’s top participants in PGA Jr. League gathered at Lost City Golf Club to participate in the SFPGA Jr. League Section Championship. Four teams competed in a match play style tournament with a morning match and an afternoon championship match to determine the team that would advance to the Regional Championship.
International Links (Miami), Coached by John Moscoso, took on Wellington National, coached by Sherri Pla. Palm Beach Gardens, Coached by Mike Valicenti, took on Boca/ West Palm- Summer, Coached by Don Law.
Palm Beach Gardens won over Boca/ West Palm- Summer, with Palm Beach Gardens winning all their matches. The second match came down to the wire with Wellington National beating out International Links by just half a point.
The afternoon started with a shotgun start between Wellington National and Palm Beach Gardens. Palm Beach Gardens came out on top beating Wellington National 10-2.
Palm Beach Gardens will be advancing to the Regional Championship at PGA National on September 7-8th, where they will compete against teams from North Florida, Alabama, North West Florida, and Georgia.
“I’m really proud of our team. They have been working really hard, improving and learning the game of golf with each practice and tournament," said Palm Beach Gardens coach Mike Valicenti. "They are also having a lot of fun and making new friends and great memories, which is what the pga jr league is all about. Th closer we get to nationals, the more excited they get but right now our focus is on the next tournament at PGA National.”
