The annual Nelson Cup Matches were held at The Forest Country on April 19th featuring PGA Professionals from three of the four South Florida PGA Chapters: Southern, Southeast and Southwest.
Due to afternoon storms, the matches had to be cut short turning the typical two-match day competition to one. The morning round was played in a foursome format in groups of six. The afternoon matches were cut short but included a three-ball match play where each player played a match against one another, each playing their own ball.
After the morning matches were completed, the Southeast Chapter comprised of Colin Amaral, PGA (Country Club at Mirasol), John Bednar, PGA (Palm Beach Country Club), Michael Berger, PGA (Hammock Creek Golf Club) and Tim Cantwell, PGA (PGA National), led the field with a total of 23 points.
The Nelson Cup holds a special meaning to the SFPGA. John Nelson, PGA and the entire Nelson family have made significant contributions to junior golf in south Florida and we thank them for all they have accomplished over the years.
The SFPGA would like to thank Scott Newhouse, PGA Director of Golf, Andrew Plesz, PGA Head Golf Professional and the entire team at The Forest Country Club for hosting the Nelson Cup. A special thanks to Scales for outfitting our players this year.
