South Florida PGA Junior Tour Modifies Levels of Play, Introduces Medalist Tour

November 18th, 2021

ATLANTIS, FL – The South Florida PGA Junior Tour has modified its current levels of play and will introduce the Medalist Tour, accompanying the Links and Prep Tours, beginning in 2022.

Under the current structure, which includes the Links, Prep, Challenge and Championship Tours, the South Florida PGA Junior Tour provides youth golfers across south Florida ages 6-18 a journey through the game of golf.

Beginning in 2022, the Medalist Tour will combine the former Challenge and Championship Tours to provide more opportunities, better competition and exposure for young junior golfers.

The South Florida PGA Medalist Tour will be a series of two-day tournaments at some of south Florida’s premier facilities. Juniors are eligible based on the previous year’s Junior Tour scoring average and point standings and the current year’s performance.

Under this renovated structure, all South Florida PGA Medalist Tour tournaments will attract stronger fields and will be nationally ranked by AJGA stars and Junior Golf Scoreboard, ultimately helping junior golfers with aspirations to play in college get recruited.

Starting with its 9-hole Links Tour, golfers will then advance to the developmental, single-day, 18-hole Prep Tour before qualifying for the Medalist Tour. A junior golfer will move to the Medalist Tour once they have a scoring average of at least 74.99 (Boys 11-12), 78.99 (Boys 13-18), 76.99 (Girls 11-12) or 81.99 (Girls 13-18).

The Medalist Tour will serve as the premier tour on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour journey, playing Girls at 5,800-6,000 yards and boys at 6,600-7,000 yards, preparing players for college and beyond.

In addition to the three tours, junior golfers can get involved with other South Florida PGA Foundation programs to continue help develop their skills, including, Drive, Chip and Putt and PGA Jr. League.

South Florida PGA Junior Tour membership is $55 and includes a memberships kit as well as access to register for all SFPGA Junior tournaments that a player is eligible for. SFPGA Junior Tour membership will open on December 13th.
