On August 5-7, Trump National Doral hosted 83 of south Florida’s junior tour players at the second annual Doral Junior Open. Over the course of the three days, players participated in 54 holes of individual stroke play. After a brief rain delay on Wednesday, players were eager to conquer the Red Tiger course.
With three subpar rounds of 71-70-67 (-8), Tyler Mistretta of North Palm Beach won the overall boys 13-18 division. Mistretta carded 13 birdies and three eagles over the three days. Doral native, Skylee Shin took home the overall girls 13-18 division title with rounds of 75-77-76, resulting in a three-stroke lead over her fellow competitors.
In the boys 16-18 division, Carlos Caloca of Delray Beach concluded the tournament one-under-par with rounds of 69-71-75. Caloca carded 12 birdies and one eagle. Makenna Rodriguez of Delray Beach secured the girls 16-18 division title with rounds of 79-73-79.
Jake Manelas of Fort Lauderdale earned himself the boys 13-15 division champion title after carding 12 birdies to go four-under-par (70-69-73) for the tournament. Katherine Schaefer of Southwest Ranches turned her game around after the first day and took home the girls 13-15 division title with rounds of 83-79-71.
Matias Saavedra of Key Biscayne took home the boys 11-12 division title with rounds of 72-76-70 (+2), which resulted in a two-stroke lead over competitor Tristan Rhodenizer.
