Tyler Collet, PGA and Patrick Rada, PGA Come Up Big Down the Stretch at the PGA Professional Championship, Qualify for the PGA Championship

April 29th, 2021

Port St. Lucie, FL – Tyler Collet, PGA birdied 18 and Patrick Rada, PGA made par on the first hole of a five-man playoff to secure spots in the Top 20 at the PGA Professional Championship, qualifying for next month’s PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.

The PGA Professional Championship is the national championship for club professionals around the country, played over the last four days at PGA Golf Club. The 312-player field qualifies through the 41 Section Professional Championships, with 17 coming from the South Florida Section.

Collet, a PGA Assistant Professional at John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, played steady and consistent golf throughout the four-day tournament. After winning the South Florida PGA Professional Championship in the Fall, Collet carded three 72s and a third-round 71 to finish at even-par for the tournament, tied 8th.

No stroke, however, was bigger for Collet than the putt on 18. After hitting his approach to about five feet, Collet drained his birdie putt to put him safely in the Top 20 and punch his ticket to South Carolina.

The 25-year-old will be making his second PGA TOUR appearance after playing in the Puerto Rico Open earlier this year.
Rada, PGA Head Professional at McArthur Golf Club, had to battle coming down the stretch in the final round at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker’s course yesterday. After a double-bogey on 10, Rada fought back with three birdies on the closing eight holes to finish at two-over-par for the tournament.

Rada’s finish found him in a five-for-four playoff which started on hole 10, a chance to avenge his double bogey. Rada did just that with a par, enough to clinch his spot in the Team of 20. The University of South Carolina alum will return to his college home for his first-ever PGA Championship.
Additionally, Matt Cahill, PGA Professional at Seminole Golf Club made the 54-hole cut which included the top 70 players and ties.

Collet and Rada will tee it up alongside 18 other PGA Club Professionals in the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course on May 20-23.

The Collet-Rada duo becomes the latest of PGA Professionals from the South Florida Section making it to golf’s biggest stage with Justin Bertsch, PGA of Club Pelican Bay competing in 2020 and 2019 and Andrew Filbert of Royal Poinciana Golf Club competing in 2019.
