ATLANTIS, Fla. – This week, the 34th
Annual Nicklaus Junior Championship was held at the famed Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach, FL. The 36-hole stroke play event was held for the first time at Lost Tree Club.
Fernando Castillo of Wellington, FL etched his name is South Florida history this week. Castillo fired a final round 1-under par 71 to rally from three shots back to capture the boys’ title. The fifteen-year-old birdied the 17th
hole to capture the title over Palm Beach Gardens, FL resident James Key by one stroke. Key would end up finishing in second place, while Cameron Owens of Wellington, FL would take home the boys’ 16-18 age division.
Laura Edmonds of Weston, FL went wire to wire to capture the girls’ title. Edmonds, who recently signed to play golf this fall at Florida Gulf Coast University shot rounds of 72-73 to capture the girls’ title by 2 strokes. Arielle Keating of Stuart, FL finished in second place after rounds of 75-72.
Pavle Tsar of Palm Beach Gardens, FL captured the boys’ 11-12 age division title after rounds of 76-78. Alejandra Castillo of Wellington, FL captured the girl’s 11-12 age division after rounds of 81-73.
Castillo and Edmonds will now join the likes of Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger as winners of the Nicklaus Junior Championship.

Sponsored by Barbara and Jack Nicklaus, the Annual Nicklaus Junior Championship, provides junior golfers (ages 18 & younger) a chance to compete in a 36-hole championship stroke play event. Past Champions of the event include PGA Tour members Daniel Berger and 2-time US Open Champion Brooks Koepka.

The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 9-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida's most talented junior golfers. The Junior Tour offers twenty-nine two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The 39 events are divided between the Championship Tour, an invitational tour featuring extended yardages, the Challenge Tour and Prep Tour.
