ATLANTIS, Fla. – Joe Steranka of Palm Beach Gardens and Tim Rosaforte of Jupiter are the newest inductees into the South Florida PGA Hall of Fame.
They will be honored at the 34th annual SFPGA awards dinner in November (date and site to be announced).
This brings to 29 the number of inductees since the SFPGA’s Hall of Fame was established in 2002.
Steranka announced his retirement earlier this year after seven years as chief executive officer of the PGA of America, headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens. He joined the Association in 1988 as director of communications after serving in marketing, sales and public relations positions with the NBA’s Washington Bullets and Cleveland Cavaliers, then with ProServe, a player representative firm.
“Golf and the PGA have taken me places I never could have dreamed of, from greenside perspectives for thrilling PGA Championships to the Oval Office and around the world from lunch with the Duke of York to meetings with the China Ministry of Sport,” Steranka said. “Along the way I have met the most inspirational people whose passion for the game brought out the best in me. These people are not celebrities but grassroots PGA members. They love golf, they protect and grow the game and they enjoy making people happy when they come to their courses and ranges.”
From 1980 through 1994, Rosaforte was an awards winning golf writer for daily newspapers in St. Petersburg, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Since then he has worked for Sports Illustrated, Golf World/Golf Digest, the PGA Tour, NBC, USA Network and Golf Channel. He is a past president of the Golf Writers Association of America and has written five books.
Both Steranka and Rosaforte are members of their respective high school sports halls of fame, Steranka in Fredonia, N.Y., and Rosaforte in Brewster, N.Y.
