SCALETTA AND OAKLEY NAMED 2012 SFPGA PLAYER AND SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ATLANTIS, Fla. – Paul Scaletta, PGA Assistant Professional at The Bear’s Club has earned the title as the 2012 South Florida PGA Player of the Year. Pete Oakley, SFPGA Life Member, has respectively earned the title as the 2012 Senior Player of the Year.

Scaletta of Jupiter, earned Player of the Year points throughout the 2012 tournament season by competing in South Florida PGA Section events as well as PGA of America national championships. Scaletta finished tied for 4th at the Florida Open, tied for 2nd at the South Florida Open, tied for 3rd in the Fort Lauderdale Open, and tied for 2nd in the South Florida PGA Professional Championship. His performance at the South Florida PGA Professional Championship qualified him to compete in the 2013 PGA Professional National Championship at the Sunriver Resort in Oregon. Scaletta also posted an impressive 5th place finish at this years PGA Professional National Championship at the Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside, California which earned him a spot in the 2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. By virtue of his 2012 player of the year honor, Paul earned an exemption into the 2013 Honda Classic contested February 25th – March 3rd.

Oakley of Palm City, no stranger to major titles after his victory at the 2004 Senior British Open, earned most of his Player of the Year points competing in the South Florida PGA major championships. His 2012 playing resume includes championship titles at the South Florida Open (Senior Division) and the Naples Beach Club Open, a second place finish at the South Florida Senior Open and third place finishes at both the Fort Lauderdale Open (Senior Division) and the SFPGA Senior Professional Championship. Oakley also competed in numerous national championships during the 2012 season, including the Senior PGA Championship, the US Senior Open and the Senior PGA Professional National Championship.

Oakley ousted Lee Rinker of Jupiter for the Senior Player of the Year honor by 102.5 points. Scaletta secured his title over Alan Morin of Royal Palm Beach by 328 points.

Congratulations to both Scaletta and Oakley on their phenomenal play over the past season. We look forward to continuing to follow their playing success as they defend their titles in the 2013 tournament season. Both Scaletta and Oakley will be honored at the 2012 Annual Awards Dinner on November 12 at The Country Club at Mirasol.
