CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The 2012 Annual Meeting was a huge success, as this year featured a completely redesigned agenda maximizing the benefit to the more than 275 PGA Professionals that attended. The meeting took place at the Marriot Heron Bay in Coral Springs, FL. The agenda featured an education seminar in the morning which offered professionals a chance to renew their CPR certification as well as participate in an informational presentation on severe weather and lightning safety presented by WeatherBug. WeatherBug put on a great presentation offering information and consultation services to the professionals who were able to attend the seminar.
The afternoon Annual Meeting of the Membership included a brand new format which included information about the new Golf 2.0 information, and featured a presentation about GET GOLF READY by PGA of America Vice President, Ted Bishop. Bishop gave an inspiring presentation which included an informational video on GET GOLF READY.
The annual meeting also included a best practices panel of Section Professionals who have had success implementing Golf 2.0 strategies at their own facilities. Personal success stories were shared with their peers about the ways in which Golf 2.0 initiatives have benefited both their members and their facilities. Karl Bublitz, Director of Golf at Grey Oaks Country Club spoke about his experience ‘Protecting the Core’ membership at his facility. Warren Bottke, Teaching Professional at Abacoa Golf Club shared a success story about ‘Connecting with Her’ via his Chip N Sip group at his facility where he engages women who are just beginning the game. Christian Sheehan, Director of Golf at Pelican’s Nest Golf Club addressed ‘Engaging the Lapsed/Tee if Forward’ initiative and gave a personal account of how teeing it forward at his facility has increased his rounds over the past year by nearly 7,000.
In the order of new business, Resolution 1 was unanimously passed. This resolution was proposed by the Executive Committee to amend the election policies to add a statement to the section constitution indicating that all election policies and procedures are defined by the Executive Board.
Resolution 2 was also unanimously passed. This resolution proposed by the Executive Committee in the matter of housekeeping, was to become consistent with all other section programs and eliminate the reference to the tournament program in the constitution. This would also be consistent with the PGA of America constitution as there is no mention of any specific programs. The Tournament program will remain under the care of the tournament committee which recommends policy and procedure changes to the Executive Board for approval.
In addition to the resolutions, Neil Lockie was sworn in as the new Southwest Chapter President as well as Karl Bublitz as the new Southwest At Large board member.
The meeting concluded with a complimentary cocktail hour at the Marriott Heron Bay presented by WeatherBug.
