Kevin Compare Named Horton Smith Award Recipient

Kevin Compare, PGA with Divot the Clown Corporation is the recipient of the 2017 Horton Smith Award. The award recognizes a PGA Member who exhibits exemplary contributions toward the education of PGA Professionals. This is Compare’s second time winning this award with the first time in 2011. Compare has spent his career as a PGA Professional continuing to learn and become the best that he can be. His outstanding and continuing contribution to developing and improving education for the game is evident.

A PGA member since 1987, Kevin has spent his last decade with the Divot the Clown Corporation, as a PGA Teaching Professional at the John Webster Golf Academy at the Breakers, and as a PGA Teaching Professional at The PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance from ‘99-’03.  He currently serves as the Section’s Education Chairperson.

Kevin has volunteered at over 30 Play Golf America Days, and put golf in a number of schools’ curriculum in the Physical Education program. He helped expose over 28,000 to the game of golf through the PGA First Swing Program. He took this program to five Air Force bases and implemented the PGA First Swing program into the Martin County school system. He also is on the faculty of both the PGA Master Professional and PGA PGM programs.

“I believe very firmly what the late Bill Strausbaugh said … ‘Those that dare to teach must never cease to learn’, says Compare. “My favorite part of being a PGA Professional is being able to be around this great game that we all love so much. Also, the relationships that are developed as well as the opportunity to help people enjoy their golf game more.”
