PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Alan Morin of Lake Worth was unbeaten as players from the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section won the 18th annual Nelson Cup matches presented by TaylorMade adidas Ashworth on Monday. Southeast earned 77 ½ points, the Southwest Chapter 51 ½ and the Southern Chapter 30.
Scoring was on a nassau basis with one point for winning each nine and a third for winning the 18-hole match. The morning competition was modified alternate shots with singles in the afternoon. There were two marches within each threesome.
Winning the maximum six points were the teams of Alan Morin and Rod Curl, Southeast; Scott Richardson and John Wade, Southwest; and Chris Toulson and Keith Burt, Southern. Morin, Wade and Richard Terga of the Southeast were unbeaten in singles.
Played at the Santa Lucia River Club here, it’s the fourth year in a row that the host chapter has been victorious. Southwest leads the overall team total with nine wins followed by Southeast Chapter, six, and the Southern Chapter, three. The Southeast Chapter includes Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast; the Southwest, Lee and Collier counties; and the Southern covers Broward and Miami-Dade.
